The RA-Aus books are designed for use by pilots training for their Pilot Certificate, Cross-Country Endorsement or Radio Operators Endorsement to reach the required competency for the ground tests. BAK covers the all important first stage of the pilot’s knowledge foundation leading to the issue of an RA-Aus Pilot Certificate.

The manual also includes the necessary ground training for ‘Air Legislation’ (Flight rules and Procedures) and the ‘Flight Radio Endorsement’. The emphasis with this manual is simplicity and thoroughness. For convenience, the manual is bound ‘loose-leaf’ in a white 4-‘D’ ring binder.

The Ground Training Manual has been structured to ensure the student follows the RA-Aus syllabus through to the Pilot Certificate but, at the same time, allows the flight instructor the flexibility of determining the sequence in which the material is covered and the pace at which the student progresses.

The manual consists of about 420 pages and contains more than 180 diagrams. Included in the pocket at the back of the binder are a ‘Study Guide’ or ‘Phase chart’ (that details the required learning for each of the three phases of training and suggested revision leading up to each Subject Test); a Ground Training Progress Chart (to keep track of the completed training and re-cord the pass marks for the Subject Tests); full-colour cloud charts; Subject Test Answer Sheet master; and ‘optional’ Jabiru Performance and Loading Charts.

The ‘teaching material’ contains more than 530 Review Exercises (with answers) plus over 200 progress test questions (with answers). There are four Subject Tests (to prepare the student for the four written exams conducted by her/his flying school on behalf of RA-Aus) — Pre-solo Air Legislation Subject Test, Flight Radio Endorsement Subject Test, Pre-certificate Air Legislation Subject Test and Basic Aeronautical Knowledge Subject Test.
